Founded on Friendship

Incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1979, the American-Italian Coalition of Organizations sought to provide a sense of community and services for the all older adults population of New York City. The name AMICO means friendship in Italian.

As times change, so do the neighborhoods we live in, but AMICO’s mission remains the same. The AMICO Senior Citizens Center offers the hand of friendship to all New York City Seniors age 60 and over. We provide a full range of nutritional, educational, social and recreational activities for over 400 older adults each day.

With over 7,000 members in our community and 8 different languages spoken at the Center, our members represent a diverse range of ethnicities. All are welcome and we hope you will join us!

Some of our many scheduled activities for body, mind, and soul include:

  • Health, safety and nutrition programs
  • Day trips to points of interest
  • A nutritious lunch for a nominal sum
  • Various classes including English as a second language, computer skills, conversational Italian, and current events.
  • Recreational activities include cards, bingo, mahjhong, ballroom dancing, karaoke, Chinese folk dancing, pool, ping pong, tai chi, and belly dancing.
